The largest airline in India, IndiGo, has begun to implement its ambitious international expansion strategy. It will now provide 174 more weekly flights between June and September 2023 to destinations in Africa and Central Asia.
Updates So Far
The airline will connect Nairobi, Kenya, and Jakarta, Indonesia, with direct flights from Mumbai in late July or early August as part of its “massive” international development ambitions.
In a statement on Friday, IndiGo stated that Delhi will be connected to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and Almaty, Kazakhstan, in September as well as to Tbilisi, Georgia, and Baku, Azerbaijan, in August.
The low-cost carrier will connect 32 worldwide locations once these routes are operational, up from its current 26.
The airline also intends to operate international flights out of North Goa Airport. Beginning in June 2023, the airline will offer dedicated service from Bhubaneshwar to Bangkok and Singapore.
The Bigger Picture
IndiGo said it would resume daily service between Delhi and Hong Kong starting in August. During the coronavirus epidemic three years ago, this flight was canceled.
The airline is on track to create unrivaled links between people and places as it implements its plan, “Towards New Heights and Across New Frontiers.”
The development coincides with the government’s initiatives to establish India as a global aviation center and a period of increasing demand for international travel to, through, and from India.
Through its codeshare agreements with Turkish Airlines, IndiGo is improving its European access. It now provides connection via Istanbul to 33 locations in Europe.
As per Hindustan Times, with a domestic market share of more than 57% and a fleet of more than 300 aircraft, IndiGo is the largest airline in the nation and conducts more than 1,800 flights per day.
