Asian Games 2023: No Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya as captain

Asian Games 2023: No Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya as captain

There is big news about the Indian cricket team in the Asian Games 2023.

According to reports, neither Rohit Sharma nor Hardik Pandya will captain Team India here.

Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to participate in the Indian cricket team in the Asian Games 2023.

Now reports are coming that Rohit Sharma or Hardik Pandya will not captain Team India in this big tournament.  Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan can lead Team India in the Asian Games 2023.

The former Indian batsman VVS Laxman is a potential head coach for the tournament in place of Team India coach Rahul Dravid. The final decision on this is yet to be taken by the BCCI.

The BCCI has for the first time agreed to send both men’s and women’s teams to participate in the Asian Games 2023, which is scheduled to be held in China.

It is important to note that the Asian Games do not come under the purview of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will not be recognized as an official event in international cricket.

Why two team formula;

The possible schedule is clashing, as the Asian Games could coincide with other cricket events such as the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The Men’s Cricket World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by India from October 5 to November 23, while the Asian Games are scheduled from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China.

On the other hand, apart from their domestic cricket commitments, the India women’s cricket team has no other schedule in September at the moment. The team had earlier participated in the Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmingham.

It is noteworthy that Shikhar Dhawan is currently out of the senior team in all three formats. There is little hope of him playing in the ODI World Cup. In such a situation, being made captain in the Asian Games is a bit surprising.

The Asian Games are to be held at China which commences on September 23.
