Pakistan To Launch Its Own T20 League in UAE in 2016

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that it will open the franchise-based league with five franchisees next year, reports said.

After long time of confusions, it seems Pakistan will soon launch its very own Twenty20 league and UAE will serve as the host.

Twice on two occasions earlier the board had planned for a Twenty20 league for the country, but shelved the idea. However, this time the board seems to have taken the leap.

Earlier this year in April, the board had hired leading global sports consultancy – Repucom, for advising on how the board can take on such as a league. PCB believes that the league will be one of the vital elements for its future finances.

In the suggestions, the board has been advised to have its first session in UAE, so that top players around the world can be attracted to the league.

Owing to the security situations in the country, it is likely that most foreign players will hesitate from playing, which is probably why UAE has emerged as the choice. In fact, since 2008, Pakistan have played all home assignments in UAE.

With other commitments in place, February next year is the best and nearest time that PCB can plan the league, but again, that will be the time for Masters Champions League (MCL)– which is a private Twenty20 league for international players who have retired.

The issue remains that MCL will be played at Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai for two weeks, which means PCB will have to adjust its schedule.
