Major wildfire burns cars and homes across California highway

On July 18, 2015, a Southern Californian highway was swept by a major wildfire that burned many cars and homes.

During the fire, around 20 vehicles have been destroyed, motorists had gone for safety, and four structures were left burning, according to authorities.

At 2.33 p.m, the fire started in the Cajon Pass along Interstate 15, which is the main highway that connects Southern California and Las Vegas. The fire then spread to 3,500 acres very rapidly.

In Baldy Mesa, five houses were burnt and around 50 were under threat. In Cajon Pass, some areas were evacuated.

Steve Carapia, the California Highway Patrol spokesman, said that around 50 to 75 vehicles had been abandoned on the highway.

According to MyFoxLA, the fire-fighting was done based from the ground because of the drone activity.

Vehicles were covered with ‘pink powder’ because of the fire retardant, and the sky had turned black.
