France Starts The Vaccination Of Millions of Ducks

Bird flu is the latest menace that has gotten the hold of France. Bird flu is a big issue for those who are in the poultry business. It creates big losses and also hurts customers who love to eat birds. To counter this issue, France has started vaccinating their ducks. It is to lessen the burden on the poultry industry, which France has faced for many years. Around 60 million birds will be vaccinated over the next year to combat the flu and help the poultry industry from this issue.

Millions to be spent on the vaccination

According to DW, the vaccination program mandates a two-dose, which will begin as soon as they are just 10 days of age. This is for farms that have more than 250 birds. The agriculture minister will do the first vaccination; the funding for these costs around €96 million. This vaccination will relieve the farmers and other business owners in the country.

Some are hesitant about vaccinated ducks

But not all are happy regarding this vaccination drive; according to an anonymous farmer, many clients are not happy when purchasing meat from vaccinated ducks. They are avoiding this meat, and this poses as a big challenge in the acceptance of the vaccinated birds and can result in further loss of the business. It can also be bad for the export of the meat from France. Many trading partners can show hesitation to have meat from the vaccinated birds. It may have an effect on the economy of the country and its exports. The bird flu outbreaks have been quite a big challenge for traders. It is the first time that such a big vaccination program is taking place in Europe.
