Las Vegas, the city of entertainment and gambling, is about to add another attraction to its list: a fine art museum. The Nevada Museum of Fine Art, which will be the first of its kind in the state, is expected to open in 2025 with the help of billionaire philanthropist and art collector Elaine Wynn.
Wynn, who co-founded Wynn Resorts and is the president of the board of trustees of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, has donated $50 million to the project and will serve as its chairwoman. She will also lend some of her personal art collection, which includes works by Picasso, Monet, Rothko and Warhol, to the museum.
The museum will be located on a 5.7-acre site near the Las Vegas Strip, and will feature a 115,000-square-foot building designed by Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. The building will have a distinctive curved shape and a reflective facade that will blend with the desert landscape.
The museum’s mission is to showcase the diversity and creativity of Nevada’s artists, as well as to bring international art and culture to the region. The museum will also offer educational programs, public events and community outreach initiatives.
Wynn said she hopes the museum will enrich the lives of Las Vegans and visitors alike, and inspire them to appreciate and support the arts. She said she believes that art can have a positive impact on society, especially in times of crisis.
“Art is a universal language that transcends borders and barriers,” she said. “It can heal, uplift and unite people. I am honored to be part of this visionary project that will bring a world-class museum to Las Vegas and make it a destination for art lovers everywhere.”
