History
The history and development of the Ordnance Factory dates back to the British period in India. The British East India Company established the Ordnance Commission at Fort William in Calcutta in 1775 to further its economic and political interests. This marked the beginning of the Indian Army’s seal fireball. They established an arms factory in Ishapore in 1787 and started production in 1791.
In 1801, the British established a large shipping center in Cossipore, Calcutta, and started production on 18 March 1802. This marked the establishment of the first artillery guns. Factories in India are still in operation today.
Every country needs to produce enough weapons and ammunition for its army. The Ordnance Factories Association has 41 offices divided into five enterprises of the Ordnance Factories Board (OFB). They also form a production protection group with a wide range of equipment on land, at sea, and in the air. OFB is considered the Fourth Defense Force, one of the four major defense forces of the country, along with the Army, Air Force, and Navy.
