India ranks 126 in the rung and falls behind countries like Libya, Iraq, Palestine and Niger. Based on the report, the older population of India has been linked to higher life satisfaction.

According to the report – “India’s older population is the second largest worldwide, with 140 million Indians aged 60 and over, second only to its 250 million Chinese counterparts. Additionally, the average growth rate for Indians aged 60 and above is three times higher than the overall population growth rate of the country.”

“We found that older men, those in the higher age groups, those currently married, and those who were educated, report higher life satisfaction than their peers.

Lower satisfaction with living arrangements, perceived discrimination, and poor self-rated health were important factors associated with low life satisfaction among older Indians,” the report said while talking about the top three predictors related to life satisfaction.

The report gave rankings based on age groups for the first time. Lithuania is the world’s happiest nation for children and young adults under 30, whereas Denmark falls at the top of the run for people aged 60 years and above.

Afghanistan falls at the bottom of the ladder and emerges as the world’s ‘unhappiest’ nation. Pakistan ranks 108th on the list.
