Bollywood star Akshay Kumar’s Hindi movie, “Boss” which was released on Oct 16, is soon turning out into Ranbir Kapoor’s “Besharam”.
Ranbir Kapoor starrer “Besharam”, released on October 2, had an impressive opening on Wednesday, but collections started nose-diving from Thursday on wards.
Now the same appears to be the case with “Boss” which grossed around Rs 13 crore net on its first day. The figure proves to be decent enough for a normal day but not for Wednesday which is a holiday.
The first day numbers prove that the mid-week release was a mistake since the film hasn’t benefited from it and now with negative publicity it is bound to see low collections on weekend.
The day-wise collection of “Boss” is as below:
Collections report | |
Wednesday 1st day | Rs. 14.35 crore |
Thursday 2nd day | Rs. 8 crores |
Friday 3rd day | Rs. 6.15 crores |
Total Domestic | Rs. 28.5 crores |
Total Overseas | Rs. 5.5 crores |
Total Collections | Rs. 34 crores |
4th day, Saturday, the movie collected Rs 7.75 crores. The 4 days collections is 41.25 crores.
Koimoi reported that the collections should have been better and the film failed miserably. Traditionally films are supposed to release on a Friday.
The mid-week release formula is a boon if the film is accepted by the masses as in the case of Salman Khan’s “Ek Tha Tiger” which was released on Independence Day of 2012. The positive word of mouth had accelerated the film’s collections.
The same is vice-versa when collections tumble down if the opening is not great along with underwhelming talk for the movie.
The traditional three-day weekend which becomes a five day weekend, puts more pressure on the film. Nowadays the Bollywood business model is just great opening with maximum screens and holidays.
But the mid week release strategy has in fact hurt “Besharam” and “Boss”.
