'DeAr' Tamil Movie Review: Aishwarya Rajesh Shines in Positive Portrayal of Women

‘DeAr’ is a Tamil language film that hit the theatres on April 11, 2024. Anand Ravichandran directs the film and features GV Prakash, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Kaali Venkat in significant roles.

The movie’s name, ‘DeAr,’ shows the letters D and A in capital letters, forming an acronym for the names of the two protagonists in the film – Deepika and Arjun.

Plot

The plot is quite quirky and focuses on a girl named Deepika who lives in Ooty. She is the ideal and sophisticated girl that every Indian man dreams of having as their life partner, but Deepika has a habit of snoring loudly when she sleeps. She is tied back from settling down with a decent boy.

On the other hand, Arjun is a journalist who lives in Chennai with his mother, elder brother, sister-in-law, and child. Arjun is passionate about his work and aspires to join a big media organization someday and interview the Finance Minister. In his daily hectic schedule, the one thing that Arjun is unwilling to give up is his 8-hour solid sleep cycle, which is precious to him. However, as destiny favors, the families of Deepika and Arjun get married.

The hidden message behind the film

Director Anand Ravichandran has strived to deliver a crucial message to society with his film ‘Dear.’ Though the plot might seem like a romantic comedy, it has an underlying message. The film showcases the fact that no individual is born and raised flawlessly.

The film also states that Marriage is a commitment and promise and involves two very different individuals. Surely, there are bound to be clashes and varied opinions. Still, for a marriage to work, both partners must make equal efforts to sustain it by evolving and adapting themselves.

The lead actors, GV Prakash and Aishwarya Rajesh delivered commendable performances. Kaali Venkat, who played the role of Arjun’s elder brother, also delivered an excellent performance.
