‘Narasimha Jayanti’ is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The day is celebrated all across the country, especially in South India.

This year, Narasimha Jayanti falls on May 22 on Chaturdashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha.

The auspicious timing for Chaturdashi Tithi will begin on May 21, 2024, at 5:39 PM and end on May 22, 2024, at 06:47 PM

‘Narsimha Jayanti’ Significance

Narasimha Jayanti has a deep religious significance. On this day, Lord Narasimha worshipped, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The name Narasimha is an amalgamation of two words- Nara and Simha. 

‘Nara’ means human, and ‘Simha’ means lion; thus, Lord Narasimha has appeared as half human and half lion. The day is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Narasimha, who gave birth to save his devotee Bhakt Prahlad.

According to Hindu scriptures, there was a king named Hiranyakashyap who considered himself to be the mightiest and highest of gods. 

He had a son named Prahlad, an ardent devotee of Shri Vishnu. Hiranyakashyap despised his son for being Vishnu’s follower and, therefore, planned to assassinate him. It was then Lord Vishnu took the form of Lord Narasimha and saved his beloved devotee Prahlad.

The day also marks the triumph of good over evil. People who are suffering from negativity, hidden enemies, toxicity, and other evils worship Lord Narasimha to remove all miseries.

Rituals and Mantra

Wake up in the morning take a bath and clean the puja room.

  • Place an idol of Lord Narasimha or Lord Vishnu and bathe him with panchamrit.
  • Adorn the idol with yellow garland and clothes and jewelry.
  • Light diya made with desi ghee. Offer five fruits and homemade satvik bhog to the Lord.
  • Recite Lord Narasimha Mantra to seek his blessings.
