Porsche Unveils Its First Hybrid Porsche 911, With $164,900 Base Price

On May 28, 2024, Porsche made automotive history by unveiling its first-ever hybrid version of the iconic Porsche 911.

The new 911 Carrera GTS combines cutting-edge technology with the timeless appeal of the 911, promising top-notch performance and a thrilling driving experience.

The Porsche 911 Hybrid represents a bold step toward the future while preserving the soul of the legendary 911. With a base price of $164,900, it’s a compelling choice for enthusiasts who crave electrifying performance without compromise.

T-Hybrid System:

The heart of the 911 Hybrid is the innovative T-Hybrid system. It features an all-new 3.6-litre flat-six engine with a single electric turbocharger, which ensures ultra-responsive performance and precise control. The electric motor is integrated into the PDK gearbox, while a compact 400-V 1.9-kWh battery resides between the bulkhead and the front trunk (frunk). Remarkably, luggage space remains unaffected.

Impressive Power:

The 911 Carrera GTS boasts a total output of 532 bhp at 6500 rpm and 449 lb-ft of torque from 1950 rpm to 6000 rpm. This power figure matches that of the previous-generation 991 Turbo.

The acceleration is blistering. 0-60 mph is achieved in just 2.9 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the non-hybrid GTS model. The top track speed is an exhilarating 194 mph.

No Electric Range:

Unlike some plug-in hybrids, the 911 Hybrid is not designed for electric-only driving. Its electric range is precisely zero miles. Instead, it focuses on delivering electrifying performance without compromising the 911’s essence.

Weight and Configuration:

The new 3.6-liter engine produces 478 bhp and 420 lb-ft of torque, similar to the previous GTS model. The e-motor contributes an additional 53 bhp and 110 lb-ft. Despite the hybrid components, the Carrera GTS remains relatively lightweight, weighing just over 3500 lbs. Interestingly, the standard configuration is now a two-seater, with the four-seat option available at no extra cost.

eTurbo Technology:

The secret behind the Carrera GTS’s responsiveness lies in the eTurbo. This sizeable electric turbocharger sits alongside the engine, separating the compressor and turbine. An additional small e-motor spins up the turbocharger rapidly, eliminating the need for a wastegate. The result? Instant boost and peak torque within a second of full-throttle application from low revs.
