Former cricketer Mohammad Yousaf has resigned from the position of selector for the Pakistan national cricket team, citing personal reasons. Yousaf, who has been a part of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee for about six months, expressed his pride in contributing to the growth of Pakistan cricket.
In a statement, Yousaf said, “I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team due to personal reasons. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket”.
Yousaf’s resignation comes shortly after Pakistan named its squad for the upcoming test series against England, set to begin on October 7 in Multan. His departure marks a notable change in the selection committee, including former test cricketer Asad Shafiq, head coach Jason Gillespie, and test captain Shan Masood.
The PCB acknowledged Yousaf’s contributions, stating, “The PCB expresses its sincere gratitude to Mohammad Yousaf for his invaluable contributions during his tenure as a selection committee member. Yousaf will continue to play a pivotal role at the PCB, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience as the batting coach at the high-performance center”.
A source close to Yousaf revealed he was unhappy with the media and social media criticism. “He was restless at being ridiculed in the media and on social media regularly and felt it would be best to just focus on coaching,” the source said.
Despite stepping down from his role as a selector, Yousaf remains committed to Pakistan cricket. “I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players and wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness,” he added.
