Golden snub-nosed monkeys have been spotted frolicking at a rare wildlife rescue base in Xi’an, Northwest China’s Shaanxi province. These playful and adorable primates, known for their striking golden fur and distinctive snub noses, have captivated the attention of visitors and wildlife enthusiasts alike.
Dr. Li Wei, a primatologist at the rescue base, remarked, “The golden snub-nosed monkeys are a symbol of China’s rich biodiversity. Their playful behavior and social interactions are truly fascinating to observe.”
The golden snub-nosed monkey, scientifically known as Rhinopithecus roxellana, is an Old World monkey species endemic to the temperate, mountainous forests of central and Southwest China.
At the Xi’an wildlife rescue base, these monkeys are part of a conservation effort aimed at protecting and rehabilitating endangered species. “Our goal is to provide a safe haven for these primates, allowing them to thrive in an environment that closely mimics their natural habitat,” explained Zhang Ming, the director of the rescue base.

They are so full of life and energy,” said a delighted visitor, Liu Yan.
The golden snub-nosed monkey is not only a symbol of China’s rich biodiversity but also a reminder of the importance of conservation efforts. With their populations threatened by habitat loss and human activities, initiatives like the Xi’an Wildlife Rescue Base play a crucial role in ensuring the survival of these magnificent creatures.
