At Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday, Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh kicked off the India leg of his Dil-Luminati Tour, making Delhi a memorable evening. The stadium was crowded with thousands of supporters, which caused heavy traffic. Fans eagerly waited to enter, with long lines extending as far as the eye could see. Fans, many of whom had waited for the performance for hours, were ecstatic to see their favourite performer return to the Indian stage. Single fans were given free drinking water bottles.
The Reality of Free Water Bottles
One project took centre stage on social media amid the show’s excitement. Outside the stadium, volunteers from the marriage-matchmaking website Jeevansathi.com gave water bottles to unmarried spectators. The volunteers, dressed in white T-shirts bearing the motto “Singles Ko Paani Pilao Yojana,” handed out bottles bearing the humorous inscription, “Jeevansathi pe aa gaye hote toh aaj ye bottle nahi uska haath pakda hota,” which translates to, “If you’d joined Jeevansathi, you’d be holding hands instead of a bottle.” The ingenious effort garnered praise and laughter on the internet.
Although the audience cheered when Diljit, wearing an all-black ensemble, gave a strong performance to start the show. The audience responded overwhelmingly as he took a moment to raise the Indian flag in a heartfelt moment. “Ye mera desh, mera ghar hai (This is my country, this is my home)!” he said, overcome with emotion. His remarks struck a profound chord with the audience and gave the intensely emotional evening a personal touch. He continued by expressing his gratitude to the audience, stating, “Thank you for your love and kindness over the years.”
Diljit posted some pictures from his event last night on Instagram, only hours after tearing down the house in Delhi.
The tweet was titled, “History Dosanjhanwala Naam DELHI Utey Likheya Khaasa Zor Lagg Ju Mitaun wastey DIL-LUMINATI TOUR Year 24 Milde a Same Time Same Stadium Day 2.”
