Minden Mill Distilling Unveils American Single Malt Whiskey Crafted from Estate-Grown Barley

Minden Mill Distilling, based in Nevada, has officially announced the release of its highly anticipated Minden Mill American Single Malt Whiskey. This artisanal spirit highlights the craftsmanship and local ingredients that define this new entry into the whiskey market.

Crafted from Estate-Grown Barley

Minden Mill American Single Malt is notable for being made entirely from 100% estate-grown barley, which is malted on site. The production process begins with mashing the barley using M1 yeast, while the water is sourced from a well at Minden Mill, fed by snowpack from the Sierra Nevada near Lake Tahoe. This attention to local sourcing ensures a unique character that reflects the region’s terroir.

Unique Distillation Process

The whiskey is distilled using dual all-copper Forsyth stills, which were handcrafted in Speyside, Scotland—one of only a few in the U.S. Unlike most American whiskey producers who rely on steam heating, Minden Mill utilizes a thermal oil-heated calandria at the bottom of the stripping and spirit stills. This innovative method creates higher temperatures, replicating the flavors associated with traditional direct-fire distillation.

Aging and Flavor Profile

Minden Mill American Single Malt is aged for five years in a carefully curated barrel regimen that includes Oloroso sherry, ex-bourbon, and American oak casks, along with re-charred wine and sherry butts. The aging process takes place in climate-controlled Rickhouses designed to mimic the temperature and humidity levels of Speyside, Scotland, allowing the whiskey to develop depth and complexity.

The whiskey is bottled at 94 proof (47% ABV) and presented non-chill filtered, ensuring that its natural flavors remain intact. Tasting notes reveal aromas of fig, caramel, golden raisin, candied plum, and honeycomb, complemented by subtle hints of almond and light tobacco leaf.

The palate is a rich combination of caramel and dried cherry, mingling with fruit compote, honey, and sweet malt. This exquisite whiskey finishes with a luxurious mouthfeel and delightful notes of cherry tobacco and light nutmeg allspice.
