Malayalam Thriller ‘Azadi’ Premieres on Manorama Max June 27

June 27, 2025 marks a meaningful Friday for fans of South Indian cinema, as a fresh wave of regional films and series hits major OTT platforms.

With stars like Sreenath Bhasi, Ram Kapoor, and Vani Viswanath leading the charge, these releases are poised to dominate weekend watchlists.

“We wanted to tell a story that feels urgent and human,” said director Anil Balakrishnan about ‘Azadi’. “Streaming gives us the freedom to reach hearts beyond borders.”

‘Azadi’ Cast & Characters: A Gritty Malayalam Thriller with a Feminist Core

Streaming on Manorama Max (Malayalam) and Sun NXT (Tamil dubbed), ‘Azadi’ is a high-stakes action drama set within the claustrophobic walls of a hospital under siege.

Sreenath Bhasi plays a conflicted police officer caught between duty and conscience. Raveena Ravi stars as Nilofer, a pregnant inmate accused of murder, whose escape becomes the film’s emotional anchor. Lal and Vani Viswanath round out the cast as opposing forces in a morally gray standoff.

Directed by Anil Balakrishnan, the film has been praised for its raw performances and socially charged narrative. The trailer alone has sparked conversations around justice, gender, and institutional power.

‘Mistry’ on JioHotstar: Tamil Detective Drama with a Quirky Twist

‘Mistry’, a Tamil-language dubbed detective series premiering on JioHotstar, is an Indian adaptation of the American cult classic Monk. The show stars:

Ram Kapoor as Armaan Mistry, a brilliant but obsessive detective with a knack for solving impossible crimes.

Mona Singh as ACP Sehmat Siddiqui, his pragmatic partner

Shikha Talsania and Kshitish Date in supporting roles

Set in Chennai and Mumbai, the series blends humor, suspense, and emotional nuance. Each episode tackles a standalone mystery while slowly unraveling Mistry’s personal trauma and healing journey.

“It’s not just about solving crimes,” said Kapoor in a promo interview. “It’s about understanding the mind behind the method.”

‘Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting’

Meanwhile, Telugu viewers are in for an exciting ride with ‘Viraatapalem: PC Meena Reporting’ on ZEE5. The show stars Anusha Reddy in her breakout lead as a small-town constable digging into a deadly government cover-up.

Set in coastal Andhra Pradesh and directed by Pradeep Talwar, the series offers authentic dialects, relatable side characters, and a female lead rarely seen in regional cop thrillers.
