A controversial AI-generated video alleging mass burials and cover-ups at the revered Dharmasthala temple has triggered a legal and digital crackdown across Karnataka. The video, created by YouTuber Sameer MD, has been widely condemned for spreading misinformation and defaming temple authorities.
The Viral Video and Its Claims
The video, which circulated on YouTube and Instagram, claimed that a former sanitation worker was forced to dispose of human remains over several years. However, Karnataka Police confirmed that the video included fabricated details not found in any official complaint, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Legal Action and Court Orders
In response, a Bengaluru court issued a sweeping injunction:
Over 8,800 online links were ordered to be deleted, including YouTube videos and social media posts.
The court barred further publication of defamatory content against the Dharmasthala temple and its administrators.
Police invoked sections of the Indian Penal Code and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to charge the creator with criminal defamation and incitement.
The legal battle escalated when the Karnataka High Court lifted the media gag, prompting the temple administration to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court, according to Bar & Bench.
