Vijayapura district witnessed a heartbreaking incident late Thursday night when heavy rain accompanied by strong winds battered Moratagi village in Almel taluk. The downpour, relentless and sudden, caused the roof of a modest family home to collapse. In the wreckage, four members of the same household lost their lives, leaving behind only one child who miraculously survived.

The calamity has shaken the Sindagi constituency. Early Friday morning, Karnataka Minister MB Patil visited the site along with local MLA Ashok Managuli, former MLA Ramesh Bhusanur, and senior government officials. Patil’s announcement stood out for its compassion. To secure the future of the lone surviving child, the government will deposit ₹20 lakh in his name. This fund is intended to cover education, healthcare, and long‑term welfare. “The boy’s life should not be overshadowed by tragedy,” Patil remarked while assuring that all necessary facilities would be extended to him.

Residents of Moratagi gathered around the collapsed structure, mourning the sudden loss of neighbors and friends. The atmosphere was heavy with sorrow, yet the minister’s assurance of support offered a glimmer of hope. Local authorities have been instructed to expedite assistance, including temporary shelter and counseling for the affected family.
