Yash’s much-awaited multilingual movie “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ released in theatres worldwide on Wednesday. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, the film opened across more than 12,000 screens globally.
The flick stars Yash in a dual role as father-son duo Raya and Ticket, alongside Nayanthara as his sister Ganga, Kiara Advani as Nadia, Huma Qureshi as Elizabeth, Rukmini Vasanth as Mellisa, and Tara Sutaria as Rebecca, with Sudev Nair and Akshay Oberoi in supporting roles.
Overseas, it opened on over 400 screens in the UK alone, carrying an 18+ certificate there due to its violent content; in India, the CBFC awarded it an ‘A’ certificate. The film runs 3 hours and 14 minutes.
The film was shot simultaneously in Kannada and English — a first for a major Indian production — and rolled out in dubbed versions across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam.
First-Day First-Show Public Reaction
Early reviews and public “first day, first show” reactions have been mixed. Critics and viewers have widely praised Yash’s screen presence, the film’s technical scale, and its action set-pieces, with several describing his performance as “career-best.” Nayanthara’s turn as Ganga and her on-screen chemistry with Yash have also drawn positive notice, as has the Yash-Kiara Advani pairing.
However, the screenplay has divided audiences. A number of viewers found the first half slow and meandering before the film shifts into a more conventional, action-heavy second half. Trade portal Telugu360 summed up a common sentiment: Yash’s style is undeniable, but “style alone can’t save the film.”
‘Toxic’ Twitter/X Reactions
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma publicly lauded director Geetu Mohandas, calling her a symbol of bold filmmaking after watching the trailer material.
The first half of Toxic starts with a solid #Yash entry that delivers the expected mass elevation, followed by a few impressive fight episodes. The cinematography, production design and overall setup look good, while #KiaraAdvani and #Nayanthara put in decent… pic.twitter.com/dts3QubqEF

One more wrote, “#ToxicTheMovie is a tiring and endless loop of action, vulgarity and sm*king. There is so much sm*king and alc*hol that the CBFC warning signs never seem to leave the screen. Every action sequence feels like a reel and entry scene.”
Another one said, “#Toxicreview —No emotion, a technical spectacle ruined by chaotic writing, messy editing and a painfully confusing screenplay. Yash’s acting and a few good scenes are the only good things.
A complete disaster. ”
