Tallahassee police had a heavy presence near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium on Saturday night for homecoming. Chief Lawrence Revell said roughly two dozen officers were already in the area when a fight between two or three people turned into gunfire just before 8 p.m. on Perry Street.
Eleven people were shot. Six of them were children. The youngest was 11 years old. A 12th person — the grandmother of one of the victims — was injured while trying to run away. One of the injured is a FAMU student. Three victims suffered serious injuries, including one who was in critical condition. No one has been arrested.
Officers had to carry victims through the crowd
Revell said the officers on scene acted quickly, but the size of the crowd made it hard to move vehicles. “We had officers who were picking up victims and carrying them in their arms to transport because they couldn’t get through the mass of people,” he said at a late-night press conference.
🚨 BREAKING: At least 11 PEOPLE have been SH0T near Florida A&M’s football game in Tallahassee during homecoming ronight
Unsurprisingly, it was some ghetto animal that opened fire.
SIX of the victims are kids, the youngest just 11 YEARS OLD, per police.
At least 3 are seriously hurt, 1 critically. One victim is a FAMU student.
Police believe there was ONE shooter, in an isolated incident between 2 or 3 people. No arrests have been made, so the shooter is still at large.
It happened just before 8 PM near Perry and Manatee streets, by Bragg Stadium, per Tallahassee police.
Praying for every one of these victims — especially the kids 🙏🏻

He added that officers ran into the area without knowing how many shooters there were or exactly where the gunfire was coming from. The entire police force had been working the busy homecoming weekend.
A small fight that spread fast
Police described the shooting as an isolated incident that started with a physical altercation. It happened shortly after the FAMU Rattlers’ homecoming game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff ended. The Rattlers lost 31-28. The university said the campus itself remained safe and that the shooting took place near, not on, campus.
Revell told reporters he was “devastated” by the number of children hurt. “No family should have to experience this kind of violence, this kind of fear, this kind of heartbreak,” he said.
As of early Sunday, the investigation was still active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallahassee Police or Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
