It is the worst news for 162 families, as the Search teams have spotted debris at sea in the hunt for the missing Airasia flight. Visuals confirm that several objects and a body are floating in the sea off Borneo Island.
Djoko Murjatmodjo, Indonesia’s director general of civil aviation has confirmed this news. As per Djoko, the search teams have found passenger doors, cargo doors and a body in the sea, 100 miles south west of Pangkalan Bun.
Indonesian officials who were flying to Pangkalan Bun have seen many bodies floating in the sea. The bodies are now being brought to an Indonesian Navy Ship.
The Airbus A320-200 disappeared on Sunday, and it was travelling from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore. As per official sources, the captain had asked for permission to take the plane to a higher altitude. But within some seconds, the communication with the plane was lost.
30 ships, 15 aircrafts and seven helicopters have joined the vigorous search operation. The search is headed by Indonesia, and they are assisted by Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.
South Korea, Thailand, China and France have also offered their help in the search process. As per reports, US destroyer ‘USS Sampson’ is on its way to the sea off Borneo Island.
Airasia is known for its impeccable safety record, and till now, no fatal accidents have occurred involving its aircrafts. As per Airasia, the Indonesian pilot who was in charge was well experienced, and the plane last underwent maintenance in mid November.
