Salman Khan jailed for 5 years – Aaj Tak live

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been jailed for five years in a 2002 hit-and-run case by a Mumbai court at around 1:20 p.m. on May 6, 2015.

The actor will have to apply for High Court now but since the High Court is on a vacation on Friday, Salman will have to be in jail for some time.

Salman lawyers will now have to appeal for the stay of the sentence and apply for his bail. They have already submitted doctors reports that the actor is suffering from a heart ailment.

His lawyers also pleaded with the judge to give the actor with a lighter sentence of less than three years keeping his charity work in mind. They also mentioned that Salman has spent more than 45 crores for charity through his NGO Being Human.

Salman Khan will first be taken to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for a thorough health check-up.

Reportedly Salman Khan was completely shattered after hearing the sentence and was visibly dejected and was in tears.

His sisters Arpita and Alvira were unconsolable after the verdict was given by the judge.

The First Post wrote, “The Mumbai sessions court and judge DW Deshpande has sentenced Salman Khan to five years in jail for the 2002 hit-and-run case. He will be taken into custody now and the police will decide which jail he will be placed in.

“Reports suggest that he may be taken to the Arthur Road jail tonight. Khan can appeal to the high court but not before he is taken to jail. The court has also ordered Khan to stop paying compensation to the victim’s family.”

The Hindustan Times reported, “Khan, wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, broke down on hearing the verdict and witnesses said there were tears in his eyes. Khan’s family members too were upset and his two sisters also broke down in the courtroom.

“The judge then heard arguments on the quantum of sentence and Khan’s lawyer sought a lesser sentence in view of his humanitarian work. He said the actor had paid Rs 19 lakh as compensation to the victims and would do more if ordered.”
