Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have announced their decision to divorce after seven years of marriage.
The couple released a joint statement to Page Six on Monday, July 17, saying, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce.”
“As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” the statement read.
Vergara and Manganiello were married in November 2015 in Palm Beach, Florida. They met in 2014 at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The couple have no children together. Vergara has a son, Manolo, from her previous marriage.
The news of their divorce comes as a surprise to many. The couple had always appeared to be very happy together. They frequently posted photos of themselves on social media and were often seen attending red carpet events together.
There is no word on what led to the split. However, a source told Page Six that the couple had been “growing apart for a while now.”
Vergara and Manganiello are both successful in their own right. Vergara is a hugely popular actress, best known for her role in the long-running sitcom “Modern Family.” Manganiello is a well-known actor and former model. He has starred in films such as “Magic Mike” and “True Blood.”
The couple’s divorce is the latest in a string of high-profile celebrity splits this year. Other couples who have announced their divorces in recent months include Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, and Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
It remains to be seen how the divorce will affect Vergara and Manganiello’s careers. However, it is clear that this is a difficult time for both of them. They have asked for privacy as they navigate this new chapter in their lives.
