Bollywood film “Masaan”, directed by debutant Neeraj Ghaywan, was released all over India and abroad on July 24, 2015, amidst raving reviews.
Can the box office numbers justify the film’s mettle? Time will tell!

“Masaan”, which means crematorium in Hindi revolves around the stories of Devi (played by Richa Chadda) and Deepak (played by Vicky Kaushal) and how their lives revolve around the city of Varanasi.
The story has its share of love, tragedy, and death, making it a great watch.
The film was produced by Drishyam Films, Macassar Productions, Phantom Films, Sikhya Entertainment, Arte France Cinema and Pathé Productions.
“Masaan” has been making headlines since it was screen at the prestigious Un Certain Regard section of Cannes Film Festival, where it won two awards.
In India too, the film has been garnering rave reviews from all corners, mainly for direction and acting. The story written by Neeraj Ghaywan and Varun Grover has also grabbed eyeballs.
Owing to the “A” certification for the film, the screen count of “Masaan” is relatively limited.

According to reports, the first-day collection of “Masaan” is close to Rs. 1.5 crores. The box office numbers are expected to be better.
The movie is pitted against last week’s release “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” starring Salman Khan, which has been setting box office records and south film “Bahubaali”, which is strong in its second week.
The film has been made on a small budget and given the reviews and positive word of mouth, it shouldn’t be hard to recover costs.
