ITV “I’m a Celebrity” viewers have threatened to quit the show over the treatment of former UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
Hancock, appointed Health Secretary in July 2020, has been criticized for handling the COVID-19 pandemic, including his decision to award contracts to companies with links to friends and family.
Since entering the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Jungle, Hancock has been subjected to several challenges, including being voted to do more Bushtucker Trials than any other contestant.
Some viewers have taken to social media to express their frustration with how Hancock is treated.
One viewer tweeted: “I’m so sick of seeing Matt Hancock getting picked for Bushtucker Trials. It’s bullying.”
Another viewer wrote: “I’m going to stop watching I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! if they don’t stop picking on Matt Hancock.”
A spokesperson for ITV has said that the show’s producers are “aware of the concern that some viewers have expressed about Matt Hancock’s treatment.”
They added: “We would like to assure viewers that the welfare of all our contestants is our top priority. All contestants are treated equally and fairly.”
It remains to be seen whether Hancock will continue to be targeted by the other contestants. However, it is clear that his presence on the show has divided I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Viewers.
