Bomb Threat Hoax Leads to School Shutdowns in Delhi:
Wednesday morning saw unprecedented scenes in the Indian Capital, Delhi. Hundreds of schools got emails of bomb threats, resulting in the closure of those schools.
Email Origin Traced:
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, confirmed that the police have identified the source of the hoax bomb emails sent to nearly 100 schools in Delhi-NCR.
“The Delhi Police have traced the origin of the emails,” he stated, ensuring the public that the police are vigilant and will take stringent action.
“Today, bomb threats have been received to some schools in Delhi through emails. Taking action on these threats, Delhi Police thoroughly checked all such schools as per protocol. However, nothing objectionable has been found. It appears it was a hoax. Delhi Police request the public not to panic and maintain peace,” the police said in a statement as per NDTV.
“We’ve checked all the schools, and nothing has been found; there is no need to panic,” senior police officer Kumar Mahla said.
Mr Saxena said he has sought a detailed probe from the Delhi Police chief.
“… I request the parents not to panic and cooperate with the administration in ensuring the safety of schools and the children. The miscreants and culprits will not be spared,” Mr Saxena said.
The police and fire department officers conducted thorough inspections in all the schools that received the bomb threat around 4.15 am.
“We learned that the same email was sent to several schools around 4:15 am. We took action and decided to close the schools and send the students back home. All schools are checking, and our technical wing is investigating the email. Throughout the initial investigation, it seems like this is a mass email,” senior police officer Rohit Meena said.
No Cause for Alarm:
Despite the initial concern, the police have declared that panic is unnecessary. “We’ve checked all the schools, and nothing has been found; there is no need to panic,” said senior police officer Kumar Mahla.
Investigation Underway:
The Delhi Police’s Special Cell is conducting a thorough investigation, though no suspicious items have been discovered in any schools.
Public Cooperation Requested:
Mr. Saxena has appealed to parents for calm and cooperation. “I request the parents not to panic and cooperate with the administration in ensuring the safety of schools and the children,” he urged, emphasizing that those responsible for the hoax will face consequences.
The police and fire department are diligently inspecting all schools that received the bomb threat early in the morning, and all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of students and staff.
