The 31st SAG Awards had many surprises. The thriller “Conclave” won Outstanding Cast. This stopped “Anora” from sweeping all major awards.
Big Wins at the 31st SAG Awards
According to The New York Times: The last three SAG winners later won Best Picture at the Oscars. These were “Oppenheimer,” “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” and “CODA.” “Conclave” had only won at the BAFTAs before this. This victory keeps the Oscar race open.
Timothée Chalamet won Best Actor for playing Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown.” He surprised everyone by beating Adrien Brody from “The Brutalist.” Brody had won all season. In his speech, Chalamet said, “I want to be one of the greats.”
The Best Actress race was intense. Demi Moore won for “The Substance.” She competed closely with Mikey Madison from “Anora.” Moore gave an emotional speech. She dedicated her win to her younger self. Fernanda Torres from “I’m Still Here” was not nominated but gained Oscar voter support.
Zoe Saldaña and Kieran Culkin continued winning. Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress for “Emilia Pérez.” Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for “A Real Pain.” He joked about the heavy trophy but said, “This actually means a lot to me.”
Jane Fonda received the Lifetime Achievement Award. She gave a powerful speech. She said, “This is not a rehearsal. We must act now.”

Edward Lachman’s ‘Maria’ Takes Top Prize at ASC Awards 2025
The 39th ASC Awards were full of excitement. Edward Lachman won the Theatrical Feature Film prize for Maria. This is the movie’s first big win. Angelina Jolie stars as Maria Callas in the Netflix film.
The ASC winner often wins the Best Cinematography Oscar. It has happened 18 times in 38 years. Maria is also nominated for the Oscar. Lachman will compete with Lol Crawley (The Brutalist), Greig Fraser (Dune: Part Two), Paul Guilhaume (Emilia Pérez), and Jarin Blaschke (Nosferatu).
Ed Helms hosted the ceremony. Jomo Fray won the Spotlight Award for Nickel Boys. Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw won the Documentary Award for Gaucho Gaucho.
On the TV side, Sam McCurdy won for Shōgun’s “Crimson Sky” episode. Robert Elswit won for Ripley’s “Lucio” episode. Richard Rutkowski won for Sugar’s “Starry-Eyed” episode.
The Music Video Award went to Pepe Avila del Pino for 313. The song features Residente, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, and Penelope Cruz.
The ASC honored industry legends. Kathleen Kennedy received the 2025 Board of Governors Award. Andrzej Bartkowiak got the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Michael Goi, Joan Churchill, John Simmons, and Pete Romano were also recognized. Suzanne Lezotte received the Bud Stone Award for Distinction.
The 2025 ASC Awards celebrated the art of cinematography. Fans now eagerly await the Oscars!
