Bomb Blast in Bangalore: Chennai woman killed and three injured

An IED (Improvised Explosive Device) blast that happened outside a busy restaurant in Bengaluru on Sunday night killed a woman and injured three other people.

As per officials, the blast was of low intensity, and it happened between 8:30 and 09:00 PM in Church Street. The explosive was placed on a footpath outside the very popular ‘Coconut Grove’ restaurant.

The deceased has been identified as Bhavani Devi, a 38-year-old lady who is a resident of Mount Road, Chennai. She was there in Bangalore to celebrate Christmas with her family.

As per Doctor Kanchan Sanyal of Mallya Hospital, Devi died of shrapnel wounds on her head. The doctors tried CPR, but an open wound pulled all their efforts to vain.

Bhavani’s relative Karthik is also admitted in the hospital, but he is out of danger now. Vinay and Sandeep, other injured persons, are undergoing treatment at the Hosmat Hospital.

Sadananda Gowda, Minister for Law and Justice described the incident as very unfortunate. He requested the people ‘not to panic’ in this situation.

‘Coconut Grove’ restaurant is very close to Brigade road and MG Road. The area will be very crowded during weekends, and this is mainly due to the presence of posh bars and pubs in the area.

City Police Commissioner M N Reddy has not ruled out the terror angle. As per Reddy, Police have obtained some very crucial information about the blast, but it cannot be disclosed at this early moments.

The whole city is now under full surveillance, and Police has been deployed in all major centers.
