Watch: Zimbabwe Shatters T20I World Record With 344/4 Against Gambia

In T20I cricket, Zimbabwe has set a world record. They achieved the highest total in the history of the game’s shortest format by smashing an incredible 344 runs in their 20 overs. The highlight of the day was Sikandar Raza, who scored an undefeated 133 off just forty-three deliveries while hitting seven fours and fifteen sixes.

For those who are unaware, Zimbabwe has been smashing records for fun while participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group B in Nairobi. They now hold the highest total for a full-member country in the format after only four days ago posting 286/5 against Seychelles.

Earlier this month, India defeated Bangladesh by 297 runs at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. In just 11 days, Zimbabwe has set a world record by surpassing the previous record, which was the greatest sum for a full-member country.

Zimbabwe World Record Highlights

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe chose to bat to register the second-highest powerplay score in the game. When their captain Raza arrived, the onslaught only intensified, reaching 103/1 after six overs. Tadiwanashe Marumani hit 62 runs off 19 balls, Brian Bennett reached 50, then Raza smashed a century off 33 balls, which is tied for the second-fastest century in T20I history.

In addition to hitting an undefeated fifty, Clive Madande helped Zimbabwe smash 27 sixes in their innings, the most of any team in the format, surpassing Nepal’s record of 26 sixes when they scored 314 runs. In the end, Zimbabwe stunned the cricketing world by scoring 344 runs in their 20 overs for four wickets.
