Deadmau5 says: ‘Probably my last Coachella’

Coachella 2025 keeps getting wilder and wilder in both the good as well as bad sense. This time, it’s the music producer Deadmau5, headlining the news with his antics.

Deadmau5 took over the weekend at Coachella to play the Quasar stage, but it didn’t happen the way the fans or even the producer himself could’ve imagined.

The Canadian DJ, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, was set to perform as his alter ego Testpilot, with Zhu, an electronic music artist, but had to leave the stage. The reason? He was seen and heard taking shots, but what sealed the deal for him was when he started slurring his speech, until he eventually fell over behind the DJ booth and had to be escorted off the stage.

Deadmau5 Drunk At Coachella

A wild night for the producer, for sure. But it came with an eye-opening morning since he took over his Instagram account to apologise for his behaviour. He admitted this might be his last Coachella.

In the caption attached to a picture of a water bottle, he shares he doesn’t remember a thing but he didn’t take a cigarette, which was good, because he’d decided to quit. He also added in the caption that he’d be going back to bed and asked people to wake him up around Thursday-ish.

That’s not the end. He also uploaded a picture of his cat, and wrote, even his cat was disappointed in him. He apologized, shared his thoughts on the show and gave a shout out to Zhu for introducing him to whiskey and carrying him till the bitter end. He promised to quit smoking, do some personal resetting at home, find his spirit animal while working on some new music and come back better.

That sounds like a lot for the artist. Deadmau5, usually known for his unfiltered comments and online behaviour, has faced backlash before too, but this time it looks like it’s a turning point event for him. So we can only hope we see better behaviour from him, considering he’s still touring for the rest of 2025.
