‘Maa’ Movie: Kajol Battles Evil in Supernatural Thriller

Bollywood icon Kajol is all set to make a powerful return to the big screen in the mythological horror thriller ‘Maa’, releasing worldwide on June 27, 2025. Directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn Films in collaboration with Jio Studios, the film promises a chilling blend of ancient curses, maternal strength, and supernatural suspense.

With a UA 16+ certification and a runtime of 2 hours and 15 minutes, ‘Maa’ is poised to be one of the most impactful genre entries in Indian cinema this year.

‘Maa’ Cast and Characters: Kajol Leads a Fierce Ensemble

In ‘Maa’, Kajol takes on the emotionally charged role of a mother who must confront demonic forces to protect her daughter.

This marks her debut in the horror genre, and early glimpses suggest a performance layered with vulnerability and ferocity.

Joining her are:

  • Ronit Roy as a spiritual guide with a dark past
  • Indraneil Sengupta as a skeptical local priest
  • Kherin Sharma as Kajol’s on-screen daughter
  • Jitin Gulati, Yaaneea Bharadwaj, and Surjyasikha Das in supporting roles

The film is helmed by Vishal Furia, known for his work in horror cinema, and is part of the same cinematic universe as Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shaitaan’.

In a behind-the-scenes interview, Kajol shared, “This role pushed me to places I’ve never gone before as an actor. It’s not just about fear—it’s about faith, fury, and the fire within.”

‘Maa’ Plot and Box Office Predictions: A Mythological Horror with Mass Appeal

‘Maa’ follows a mother-daughter road trip that spirals into a nightmare when they stumble upon a cursed village and a tree believed to imprison an ancient demon. As the legend of Daitya unfolds, Kajol’s character must awaken her inner goddess to battle the evil threatening her child.

The film’s mythological horror theme and emotionally resonant storytelling have already struck a chord with audiences. The trailer and songs—especially “Kali Shakti” featuring Usha Uthup—have garnered online engagement.

Despite facing stiff competition from releases like ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ and ‘Housefull 5’, ‘Maa’ is projected to open between ₹6–8 crore on Day 1, a notable leap from Kajol’s last solo theatrical release.

Trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal noted, “The buzz around ‘Maa’ is organic and growing. It’s connecting with both mass and multiplex audiences.”
