Connectivity in Vasco-da-Gama is set for a major upgrade as DRM Smt. Bela Meena and Vasco MLA Shri Krishna Salkar conducted a high-level joint inspection of the ongoing New Bridge No. 292A (Road Under Bridge) construction.
The project, which is currently in a critical phase of box-frame installation, aims to eliminate a decades-old traffic bottleneck that has long hampered emergency services and heavy vehicle movement in the city center.
Our sources confirmed that the new structure is specifically designed to provide a 5-meter vertical clearance, replacing an outdated underpass that forced taller vehicles into a 12-km detour.
Salkar noted that this “emergency-priority” corridor will function alongside the existing route, effectively creating a high-capacity four-lane flow near the Taniya Hotel stretch.
During the site visit on March 21, 2026, the team meticulously reviewed the technical alignment, ensuring that the development does not come at the cost of the city’s green cover.
Salkar has already directed engineers to adjust the median to preserve several age-old trees that hold emotional value for local residents. This “environment-first” approach has received widespread praise from the Vascokar community.

Check out the official social media update below, featuring footage of the DRM and MLA discussing the drainage and dewatering plans for the upcoming monsoon season.
The digital post highlights the synergy between the South Western Railway and the Goa state government in fast-tracking this vital urban infrastructure. Public comments on the post suggest that residents are eagerly awaiting the two-month completion deadline.
Reliable reports indicate that the inspection also extended to the Railway Community Hall at Vasco. DRM Bela Meena personally assessed the facility’s existing arrangements to ensure they meet the modern standards required for community events and staff functions.
We talked to railway officials who confirmed that a renovation plan is being drafted to upgrade the hall’s interiors and seating capacity.
The South Western Railway (Hubballi Division) is handling the core bridge engineering, while state agencies like the PWD and Fire Services are managing the approach roads and safety signage.
We saw the engineering team demonstrate the stability of the concrete frames, which are being installed during limited night-time “blocks” to avoid disrupting regular train operations.
Once operational, Bridge No. 292A will significantly reduce travel time between Vasco city and Dabolim Airport. The MLA urged residents to cooperate with the temporary traffic diversions as the final road regrading begins. This project stands as a centerpiece of the “Vasco Progress” initiative, promising a safer and more efficient commute for thousands of logistics operators and locals alike.
