It is a great time for crime/thriller buffs, with major OTT platforms streaming much-anticipated serials. It includes the return of ‘Citadel’ (Season 2) on Amazon Prime Video, as well as ‘The Boys’ (Season 5).
However, ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’, streaming on Netflix, is the top trending show and is a tense crime thriller starring Emma Meyers.
Author: Holly Jackson
Genre: Young Adult Mystery, Thriller, Crime Fiction
Rating: ★★★★½ (4.5/5)
Plot
The thriller is based on a mystery novel published in 2019 and chronicles the journey of a seventeen-year-old, Pip Fitz-Amobi, who, as part of a school project, decides to investigate a five-year-old murder case. The general belief was that Sal Singh murdered his girlfriend, Andie Bell, and later committed suicide.
However, several glaring anomalies in the investigation led Fitz to conclude that Sal was innocent and the real killer was still on the loose. What started off as a school metamorphoses into a dangerous investigation which uncovers long-concealed secrets, corruption, and lies in the small, quiet town of Little Kilton.

What makes the episodes engrossing are the twists and turns which keeps the audience on the edge of their seats and unable to comprehend what will happen next. Holly Jackson has helmed the series with care and structured it like a murder investigation.
Pips excels in her role as a smart but not flawless teen detective who succeeds with some luck, logic, and research. As the story grows, it also chronicles the evolution of Pip from a curious student into a determined investigator who is trying to uncover the truth regardless of the emerging dangers.
Another factor that has made the series so popular is its ability to surprise the audience. The calm exteriors of the quiet town hide unpleasant truths in its underbelly. Every character in the series has some unpleasant truth that he or she hides. The series also explores the paradox between the legal truth and what actually happened.
