Vrukshathon Heritage Run 7th Edition in Vijayapura Expects Over 15000 Runners

Vrukshathon Heritage Run route map release in Vijayapura

Karnataka Industries Minister M.B. Patil on October 17, 2026, chaired a preparatory meeting for the 7th Vrukshathon Heritage Run in Vijayapura. The event is scheduled for December 13, 2026, and aims to combine heritage awareness, environmental protection, and health.

The run will have 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km categories. Organizers expect more than 15,000 runners from India and abroad, a figure higher than previous editions. At the meeting held at the Vijayapura Zilla Panchayat hall, Patil released the route maps for the three distances.

The run starts at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium in Vijayapura from 6 a.m. It is organized by the Vrukshabyaan Foundation and the CRDS Foundation with the theme of running for trees, rain, and heritage.

Officials present at the meeting included Deputy Commissioner Dr. Anand, Zilla Panchayat CEO Anand Prakash Meena, and District Police Superintendent Lakshman Nimbargi, along with forest department staff, local runners, and environmental groups.

Registration for the event closed on October 11. Earlier reports said the organizing committee had set a target of around 30,000 registrations, after roughly 23,000 runners took part in the previous edition. A women’s promo run was held in early September as a warm-up, with participants running past monuments such as Gol Gumbaz.

Patil has previously described the event as a way to highlight Vijayapura’s historical sites while promoting tree planting and fitness. The December 13 date remains the same as announced in earlier posts by the minister. Free training sessions for beginners were also arranged in the weeks leading up to the run at local stadiums.

The event has grown steadily since its earlier editions. Organizers say the goal this year is to make it the largest so far by drawing runners who want to support both heritage conservation and green cover in the district.

Route maps for the 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km distances were released so participants can prepare. Local runners and environmental groups attended the October 17 meeting and discussed arrangements for traffic, water points, and medical support along the course.

Vijayapura’s monuments, including Gol Gumbaz and other historical sites, form part of the backdrop for the run. The organizers have linked the event to tree-planting drives and awareness campaigns on water conservation.

Past editions saw strong local participation, and the 7th edition is expected to attract both experienced marathon runners and first-timers.

The preparatory meeting covered coordination among the police, forest department, and district administration to keep the event smooth on December 13.
