Going by the grapevine, Tom Cruise, this time around, would don the garb of a senior officer of the US Navy, training a new generation of fighter pilots.
As the Covid pandemic continues to stay on the radar, the human race begins its battle to ring in hopes of a world sans the virus. Efforts to this effect seem to be bearing fruit, with a silver lining set to peek out by October-November. A bunch of big-budget Hollywood flicks are lined up for release to capitalize on this scenario.
The most prominent one amongst these would be the fighter pilot drama Top Gun: Maverick. The second in the Top Gun franchise, the film will also see fan-favorite Tom Cruise back in action. It has been a good number of years since Top Gun made its advent, and the film had brought to the silver screen a young, dynamic Cruise with all his daredevilry intact.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’
The flick is among the most anticipated movie releases in the post-Covid 19 scenarios. When the cinemas open on a full scale, Tom Cruise would be the most sought-after star in the new normal scenario.
A little birdie also hinted that an Oscar-themed song would be part of Top Gun: Maverick and the song would be rendered by none other than Lady Gaga.
According to Wix.com, Lady Gaga has written and performed the theme song for the latest and much-awaited Tom Cruise starrer. Gaga is no stranger to Oscar’s platform, having won the coveted statuette for the song Shallow from A Star Is Born.
Going back a few years, memory would bring back Berlin’s Take My Breath Away, which had won many fans after releasing as Top Gun’s theme song. It became a global rage then.
Meanwhile, what Tom Cruise and his Maverick character would bring to the screen is nobody’s guess at the moment. The young and dynamic Cruise of “Top Gun” has grown older, and the new edition of his Maverick avatar is sure to be a senior officer flanked by rookies daring to fight.
Tom Cruise as Navy Officer
Going by the grapevine, Tom Cruise, this time around, would don the garb of a senior officer of the US Navy, training a new generation of fighter pilots. And if the generation gap is something to ponder about, sparks are bound to fly.
The best part about “Top Gun: Maverick” would be that the global audience would get to watch the flick on the big screen. Hopefully, the Coronavirus scare would be on the wane by then.
If the 1986 release was helmed by Tony Scott, the mantle of director for Top Gun: Maverick has been passed on to Joseph Kosinski. Cruise had earlier worked with Kosinski for the sci-fi flick Oblivion. Ehren Kruger and Eric Warren Singer have scripted the film, while Claudio Miranda is the cinematographer.
Though initially charted for release on July 12 last year, the pandemic had scuttled all plans. Now that hopes have rekindled the virus spread, the wane fans have to wait a few more months.
