Usually known for his roles in popular K-dramas such as “Queen Of Tears” and “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay”, Kim Soo Hyun’s new drama, along with his future, seems to be at risk. The highly anticipated show, “Knock Off” starring Kim Soo Hyun as the main lead, has officially been put on hold for an indefinite period.
The star has sparked controversy following the death of Kim Sae Ron. The actor has been accused of dating the late actress when she was an underage teenage girl, while also pressuring her to repay her debts.
In a recently held press event, Kim denied all the allegations, but the fans and people across the globe are enraged by the revelation just the same.
“Knock Off” Halted for the Time Being
According to Allkpop, the production team formally notified the cast and crew members about their decision to pause the production for the time being. Disney+ also announced postponing the release date of “Knock Off” while they decided on their next move but now, the show seems to be as good as dead for the foreseeable future. With no announcement made related to a possible release date and the production put on halt, “Knock Off” has been knocked off the table.
This announcement comes at a crucial time, since “Knock Off” was nearing the end of the production cycle. But now the release of this K-drama seems unlikely to happen, given the fact that Kim Soo Hyun’s real life legal drama is still ongoing.
The actor has filed a defamation lawsuit against the site that posted several allegations against him, but will the law play in his favour or not, depends on the court.
The show focused on the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis and the rise of counterfeit markets and was set to span for eighteen episodes. The production budget for the show was ₩60 billion KRW (approximately USD 42 million), with ₩9 billion KRW (around $6.29 million USD) set as Kim’s fee for the show.
Now that the production has stopped, it seems that there are several other problems arising as well, mainly potential breach of contract penalties.
