China Mandates Lockdowns And Intensive Testing

Over 5,000 new reported cases of COVID-19 have been registered in China, doubling the figure recorded on Monday and the maximum day tally since the epidemic began two years ago.

In response to a worsening outbreak of COVID-19, China has mandated lockdowns and intensive tests.

Recent Cases

In the most recent 24-hour period, the National Health Commission confirmed 1,337 regionally transferred cases, including 895 in the industrial area of Jilin. According to a government notification, citizens would need police approval to leave the area and get from one city to the other.

According to the official broadcast “CCTV“, the badly-affected region sent 7,000 volunteers to assist with the operations, including everything from maintaining order and enrolling citizens at testing stations to utilizing drones for aerial spraying and sanitation.

In the most recent 24-hour period, Hong Kong confirmed 26,908 new patients and 249 fatalities. The city records cases differentially from the rest of the country, including quick antigen testing and PCR analyses.

Carrie Lam, the city’s mayor, said officials would not increase pandemic barriers for the time being. But, at a media briefing, she remarked, “I have to examine whether the public, whether the citizens would sustain greater actions.”

Strategies Implemented By Chinese Administration

Since the initial Wuhan outbreak, China has witnessed very minimal cases as the administration has stuck to its zero-tolerance policy, which focuses on preventing coronavirus transmission by enforcing rigorous curfews and enforced containment for anyone who has interacted with a confirmed covid patient.

The administration has stated that it will abide by its transmission-stopping strategy for the time being.
