Marvel may revive the original 'Avengers' cast, including 'Iron Man' and 'Black Widow'

Marvel is considering bringing back the original ‘Avengers’ cast for the new film

Marvel Studios is considering bringing back the original Avengers cast, including Black Widow Scarlet Johannson and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. Audiences saw two fan-favorite characters die in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The former is already set to appear in her own prequel film, but it has not yet been confirmed that Iron Man will return or that the original cast as a whole will be revived. However, according to Variety, there have been discussions about a potential new Avengers movie with the original cast. This means the duo could return together as part of the MCU.

Although there have been active discussions about it, Marvel has yet to commit to the idea fully. The big issue here is the budget, given that reviving the characters won’t be cheap. Downey’s salary for Iron Man 3 was $25 million. In addition to the hefty payday, there is the question of whether Johannson or Downey want to reprise their roles. In an interview with Extra, he suggested that the studio should replace him with Tom Cruise. As for Johansson, she’s been particularly open about not wanting to return. “The chapter is over. I did everything I had to do,” Gwyneth Paltrow said on the podcast.

In addition to Iron Man and the demise of Black Widow, Chris Evans’ Captain America ended up as an old man in the last Avengers movie. The introduction of the MCU multiverse could be one possible way to bring back deceased characters. The second season of Loki continued to explore the multiverse. Then again, it’s also possible that the original Avengers gang could return in one of Marvel’s upcoming pictures — 2026’s Avengers: The Kang Dynasty or 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars. However, nothing is confirmed yet and a revival seems too far in the future.
