Putting the Gossip to Bed Once and For All
When Sydney Sweeney took the stage as host of “Saturday Night Live,” she didn’t beat around the bush. The actress used her opening monologue to directly address those pesky rumors about her and co-star Glen Powell being more than just friends and colleagues. Sweeney made it abundantly clear there’s no secret romance, stating plainly, “The craziest rumor out there is that while filming ‘Anyone But You,’ I was having an affair with my co-star Glen Powell. That is obviously not true.”
Still Going Strong With Her Fiancé
Sweeney, who got engaged to businessman Jonathan Davino in 2022, pointed out that her fiancé was actually on the set of “Anyone But You” as a producer during filming. She wanted to reassure everyone that their relationship is still rock solid, saying, “I want you all to know he’s the man of my dreams, and we’re still madly in love and closer than ever.”
A Cheeky Glen Powell Cameo
To really drive home her point about the rumor not being true, Sweeney played a funny prank. When asked for the cameras to show her fiancé in the audience, it was actually Powell himself who appeared on screen with a sheepish grin, cracking up the crowd. But Sweeney made sure to clarify that it was just a joke and her real fiancé, Davino, was backstage supporting her.
That Sizzling On-Screen Chemistry
So where did all the dating gossip even come from? It likely stemmed from the undeniable chemistry between Sweeney and Powell in their romantic comedy film “Anyone But You” which came out in December. Their playful, flirty banter while promoting the movie, like at CinemaCon back in April, also had fans wondering if real sparks were flying off-screen too.
With her “SNL” hosting gig, Sweeney took the opportunity to straightforwardly put those relationship rumors to rest once and for all. In a funny yet clear way, she reaffirmed her commitment to her fiancé, Jonathan Davino.
