The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced that the Pakistan women’s cricket team will not travel to India for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, scheduled from September 29 to October 26, 2025. Instead, the PCB has requested that their matches be held at a neutral venue, adhering to the hybrid hosting model agreed upon earlier this year.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi clarified the decision, citing the precedent set during the Champions Trophy earlier this year, where India played their matches at a neutral venue due to diplomatic tensions. “Just like India didn’t play in Pakistan during the Champions Trophy and were allowed to compete at a neutral venue, we will do the same. When there is an agreement, it must be honored,” Naqvi stated.
The PCB’s decision comes amidst ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan, which have historically impacted bilateral cricketing ties. The hybrid hosting model, which allows teams to play their matches at neutral venues, has been implemented to ensure participation while addressing geopolitical concerns.
Pakistan’s women’s team recently showcased stellar performances in the World Cup qualifiers held in Lahore, securing their spot in the tournament alongside Bangladesh. Naqvi expressed pride in the team’s achievements, stating, “The team showed how to make the most of home advantage and play as a collective unit. I am pleased to see women’s cricket thriving.
As the host nation, India will determine the neutral venue for Pakistan’s matches. The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 will feature eight teams: India, England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
