The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for June 12, warning of extremely heavy rainfall across Dharwad district.
Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu GRJ, who also heads the District Disaster Management Authority, confirmed the forecast on Monday, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
The region was previously under an Orange Alert on June 10 and 11, but escalating weather conditions have prompted authorities to heighten warnings. Officials have raised concerns about potential flood-like situations in the Tupparihalla and Bennihalla catchment areas, advising villagers in low-lying regions to remain vigilant.
Emergency Preparedness and Public Advisory
In response to the forecast, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors unless essential. Emergency services are on high alert, monitoring the situation closely to ensure swift response to any crisis.
Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu GRJ emphasized the importance of preparedness, stating, “All relevant departments have been directed to stay on high alert and be ready to respond swiftly to any emergency.”
