Anti-Ageing Pills Under Scrutiny After Shefali Jariwala’s Sudden Cardiac Arrest

Shefali Jariwala

The sudden death of actor and model Shefali Jariwala, best known for her breakout role in the early 2000s music video “Kaanta Laga”, has sparked widespread concern after reports suggested that anti-ageing medication may have contributed to her fatal cardiac arrest. The 42-year-old was rushed to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital in Andheri late Friday night, where she was declared dead on arrival.

According to News18 , Jariwala had taken her regular anti-ageing pills and an injection earlier that day, despite fasting for a religious puja. Her blood pressure reportedly dropped drastically later that evening, and she began shivering before collapsing.

While the official cause of death is still pending postmortem confirmation, Mumbai Police have registered an accidental death report and are investigating the role of her ongoing anti-ageing treatment.

Anti-Ageing Treatment May Have Triggered Fatal Reaction

Sources close to the investigation revealed that Jariwala had been undergoing anti-ageing therapy for several years, which included Vitamin C and Glutathione—a compound often used for skin lightening and detoxification.

Experts warn that such treatments, especially when combined with fasting or taken on an empty stomach, can lead to severe side effects including blood pressure fluctuations and cardiac stress.

A senior police official told The Indian Express that “prima facie, there is no foul play,” but the autopsy report has been “reserved” pending further toxicology analysis.

Public Health Concerns Rise Over Unregulated Wellness Trends

Jariwala’s death has reignited debate over the safety of cosmetic and anti-ageing treatments, particularly those involving hormonal or injectable therapies. While these procedures are often marketed as safe and rejuvenating, medical professionals caution that long-term use without proper supervision can pose serious health risks.

The forensic team has collected medications and supplements from her residence, and statements from family members, domestic staff, and medical personnel are being reviewed as part of the ongoing probe.
