Pricing jumped this year. Rising memory chip costs pushed Samsung to raise both devices by $100 over their predecessors.
Two Very Different Fold Designs
Samsung split its flagship foldable into two distinct products for the first time. Here’s how they differ:
- Galaxy Z Fold8: 7.6-inch inner display, 4:3 screen ratio, starts at $1,899
- Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: 8.0-inch display, triple camera setup, priced above $2,000
The standard Fold8 opens more like a passport than a book. Samsung says the wider 4:3 ratio gives a better viewing experience for photos and video.
What’s Under the Hood
Both models share serious hardware. Key specs include:
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset
- Up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage on the Ultra
- 5000 mAh battery on the Ultra, 4800 mAh on the Fold8
- One UI 9 running on Android 17 out of the box
- 45W fast charging, a first for the Fold line
The launch also included the Galaxy Watch 9 series and new Galaxy Glasses. That’s a lot of hardware for one event, and it signals how much Samsung wants to defend its foldable turf.
Racing Ahead of Apple
Timing here isn’t random. Samsung wants its eighth-generation foldable firmly in stores before Apple’s rumored first foldable iPhone lands.
CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood noted Samsung “is keen to maintain a competitive price point” . He added that the Ultra’s price above $2,000 will be a real “talking point” among buyers.
Early Buyer Incentives
Carriers are already pushing trade-in deals hard. Buyers can save up to $1,200 with an eligible trade-in, or grab $200 in Samsung Credit without one.
