The BCCI has decided to hold the IPL 2027 auction in India after Tuesday’s IPL Governing Council meeting. Cricbuzz reports that the move ends a recent run of overseas auctions.  Franchises now expect the mini-auction back on home soil later this year.
Recent IPL auctions sat in Saudi Arabia and then Abu Dhabi for two years. Venue hunts in India often clashed with wedding season and hotel demand. The board still chose India for the 2027 player sale.
The date is not locked on an official circular yet. Early reports put the window around mid-November, with some notes pointing to November 15–17. Retention lists usually land before the bidding room opens.
The same GC sitting left the Impact Player rule hanging. Officials will take a fresh call at next month’s meeting. Squad building for IPL 2027 will wait on both files.

Ten franchises must still send retained and released names, expected in November. Released players can move in the pre-auction trade window. The mini-auction then fills the leftover slots inside a Rs 151 crore salary cap.
IPL 2027 is the league’s 20th edition. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has already flagged a possible March 10 to May 15 season to dodge peak heat. Auction planning now sits on that same calendar.
Sunil Gavaskar had criticised the domestic schedule for bending around the IPL sale. White-ball events in November–January share the same stretch. An India venue at least keeps owners, scouts, and media in one country.
City choice still needs a formal BCCI note. Until that lands, “auction in India” is the confirmed direction, not the hotel booking.
