PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana pays a central rooftop-solar subsidy to grid-connected homes. We saw the national portal list more than 48 lakh beneficiary households by July 2026. Our sources said the scheme is meant for people who own or control a house with a regular electricity connection.
Central support is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW. The cap is ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above. Money goes by DBT to the consumer’s bank after the DISCOM commissions the plant.
Registration is online at pmsuryaghar.gov.in or consumer.pmsuryaghar.gov.in. Verify a mobile number with OTP, save name, state, district, and email, then apply with your DISCOM and consumer number. Fetch details pulls the sanctioned load from the utility.
Pick an empanelled vendor from the portal list. After feasibility, install ALMM-listed modules, apply for a net meter, and wait for inspection. Upload bank details and a cancelled cheque so the subsidy can land in about 30 days of commissioning.

PM Surya Ghar Benefits, Loan and How to Apply
The government also cleared collateral-free loans at a concessional rate for rooftop solar. Banks and the portal list approved lenders. Keep the electricity bill name and the bank account name the same, or the subsidy can stall.
July 2026 was a heavy month for new rooftops. Ministries later said monthly installations crossed five lakh homes in one stretch and that subsidy already paid ran into tens of thousands of crores. DISCOMs also reported many homes seeing at least one zero bill after commissioning.
The national portal has shown the scheme window running until 31 March 2027. Apply only on the official site. Avoid vendors who promise extra cash off the portal or non-listed panels.
Hubballi, Dharwad, and other Karnataka consumers use the same national form and their local ESCOM. Feasibility still sits with the DISCOM. A house with shade-free roof space and a working meter is the basic test before you sign a quote.
