Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation marked Pourakarmika Day as part of its Swachhateye Seve 2026 drive and honoured retired sanitation staff. Commissioner Rudresh Ghali shared the stage with field officers and working pourakarmikas. Our sources said the civic body used the morning to thank crews who sweep, lift waste, and keep drains clear in rain and heat.
Deputy commissioner (development) Vijayakumar Ramanaik sat with deputy commissioner (administration) Anuradha Vastrad Hiremath. Chief accounts officer Shankaranand Banashankari and solid-waste executive engineer Santoshkumar Yarngalli also attended. Environment engineers and other HDMC staff filled the remaining chairs.
Retired pourakarmikas received a public honour for long service. Many of them spent decades on Hubballi and Dharwad streets before they left the rolls. Younger workers stood through the same programme as the names were read out.
Twin-city garbage and drain work still runs on these crews. Officers asked residents to treat sanitation staff as partners, not as people to shout at on the route. A short salute closed the vote of thanks.

Hubballi-Dharwad Honours Pourakarmikas on Civic Duty Day
HDMC framed the event as part of Swachhateye Seve 2026, not a one-off photo stop. Ward-level collection still depends on the same men and women who start before shops open. Retired staff got shawls or citations; the note shared with us did not list cash amounts.
Ramanaik handles development files. Hiremath handles administration. Banashankari signs the accounts that pay wages and contractors. Yarngalli’s solid-waste wing runs the trucks and the transfer points.
We saw the message stay simple. Keep Hubballi-Dharwad clean with the corporation, not against the people who lift the bins. Pourakarmika Day 2026 now sits on HDMC’s local calendar as that thank-you meeting.
