Watch the Flydubai captain video call that Prime Minister Narendra Modi held with Captain Smit Machchhar on Friday, October 2, 2026, two days after a Dubai-to-Tel Aviv flight went into a steep dive. The nearly 10-minute video, and the clip had already drawn 248,699 views, 10,549 likes and 2,414 reposts by morning.
Modi told the injured pilot that the country was praying for him. “The whole country is praying for you. Maha Mrityunjay Jaap is being done for you and your health,” the Prime Minister said on the call.
He then tied the landing to a wider claim about Indian conduct under pressure. “Your courage, presence of mind and composure saved many lives. The country can proudly say that Indians are not those who take lives, but those who are willing to risk their lives to save others.”

Captain Smit did not treat the call as a thank-you lap. He told Modi he had fallen on the cockpit floor, was still being struck, and knew the aircraft was going down.
“I was fighting for my life,” he said. “I told myself that if I don’t get up, I’ll be dead.”
He has flown for more than 17 years and has been a captain for 11. Even with his eyes closed, he said, he could read what the jet was doing. “These are the last 10 minutes. The door is right there.” He forced the cockpit door open. Passengers and crew came in and helped restrain the attacker.
BBC News reported that the Israel-bound Flydubai jet plunged more than 17,000 feet about two hours after leaving Dubai on Wednesday, then diverted and landed in Saudi Arabia. The captain was first taken to a hospital in Tabuk.
He also told Modi he was reciting the Hanuman Chalisa while the fight was still on. Modi said he had already spoken to the pilot’s mother, Geeta, and praised the values she had passed on.
What viewers wrote under the video
The replies under the ANI video stayed short and loud. One user wrote, “It is our DNA we indian save to other not harm anynone. Proud to you Smit.”
Another called the exchange the rare wholesome post on the platform. “This conversation is really wholesome, just making me feel happy like never before on twitter. Salute to captain smit.”
A related social embed of the ANI video will be inserted here so readers can watch the call in full.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already called Captain Smit a true hero. Modi’s own post on Thursday said the pilot’s resolve helped avert a great tragedy. The video call on Friday put that praise in the pilot’s hospital room, not only on a timeline.
Why the call landed so hard
Our sources confirmed the clip spread fastest among Indian users who wanted the pilot’s own words, not a second-hand recap. The line about opening the door while still under attack is the one people kept quoting.
Watch the video once for the Prime Minister’s line on prayer, and again for the pilot’s account of the last 10 minutes. The two voices do different jobs. One offers the country’s thanks. The other explains how a wounded captain got a door open before the descent became a crash.
Recovery is still the open question. The call did not turn into a briefing on charges or the co-pilot’s status. It stayed on the man in the hospital bed, the door he opened, and the passengers who came through it.
