Pang Dong Lai draws nearly 4 million visits, Xuchang hotels hit 94 percent

Shoppers at Pang Dong Lai in Xuchang during China’s National Day holiday

Pang Dong Lai in Xuchang drew nearly 4 million visitors over China’s National Day holiday, and star-rated hotels in the city filled to 94 percent, a holiday record. The Xuchang culture and tourism bureau gave those figures to Dahe News on October 8, 2026. China Perspective posted the same numbers on October 9.

The crowds were thick enough that the Angel City supermarket put a cap on entries and ran a queue. Shoppers from outside the city were buying in bulk. The bureau said the store’s traffic was turned into longer stays, not a same-day dash.

How the city held the visitors

Xuchang tied Pang Dong Lai to a ticket-stub scheme. A receipt from the mall opened discounts at other shops and at tourist sites. The bureau said 60 businesses took part, with more than 100 offers in three groups. It also ran 96 cultural items and more than 420 events under four city brands: Pang Dong Lai, the Cao Wei period, Jun porcelain, and the flower and hot-spring trade.

A shuttle ran as a regular service from the high-speed rail east station to Pang Dong Lai and the Cao Wei old city. Government office car parks were opened free to out-of-town visitors. Volunteer guides in Han dress met arrivals. Visitor stops offered luggage storage and water. The bureau did not publish a spend figure or a split between local shoppers and tourists.

About Pang Dong Lai

Pang Dong Lai is a private retail chain based in Xuchang, Henan. It is known for tight store rules, high pay for staff, and a supermarket that has become a reason to visit the city. Angel City is the flagship people queue for. The National Day rush is the latest sign that a shop, not a temple or a park, is what filled Xuchang’s hotels. The 94 percent occupancy is the city’s own holiday high, as stated by the culture and tourism bureau.

Dahe News carried the bureau’s note. The English post is on @China_Fact.
