Dalit rights activists and regional political leaders staged a demonstration in Hubballi on October 10, 2026, protesting against delays in constructing the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Cultural Bhavan.
The protest was spearheaded by Suresh Khanapur, state president of the Karnataka Dalit Mochana Samiti and leader of the Siddhartha Seva Sangha.

Venkatesh Katwe, vice president of the BJP Yuva Morcha for the Hubballi-Dharwad Mahanagara district, led the protest and expressed strong support for the organizers.
Katwe noted that the cultural center serves as an essential symbol of social justice, equality, and educational growth for local communities. He called on municipal authorities to complete all pending construction work quickly and open the facility to the public.
Activists warned that failure to meet their demands would trigger wider agitations across the district.
The demonstration brought together leaders from multiple community organizations, including Virupakshi Y. Chalavadi, president of the Siddhartha Seva Sangha, Kanchappa Mallammanavar, state general secretary of the Karnataka Dalit Mochana Samiti, and Basantkumar Ananthpur, state president of the Jai Bhim Sangharsha Samiti.
Additional participants included AHINDA state vice president Anand Pujari, Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Abhimani Balaga state president Suresh Gokak, and Valmiki association leader Ashok S.K., along with representatives from several local advocacy groups.
Protesters emphasized that delayed civic infrastructure projects unfairly impact public access to social and cultural events.
